Applied Ecology and Conservation Biology

Earn a research degree that prepares you for a career in natural resource conservation and management.

Gain skills to explore complex conservation topics in is broad-based and global as you take part in this program heavily steeped in research by using the extensive resources available at Frostburg State University and diverse field environments. 

You'll choose between two education tracks - conservation biology or landscape and watershed technology - and join a cohort of no more than 15 graduate students who work with state and federal fish and wildlife agencies, private industry and non-governmental agencies. 

  • Conservation biology addresses both local and global challenges associated with conflicts between human development and conservation of biodiversity.
  • Landscape and watershed ecology studies the effects of human activities and natural processes on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems at multiple scales.

One of the top biology programs in Maryland, our program incorporates both domestic and international issues led by professors who are published scientific authors and renowned authorities in their respective fields.

As a graduate of this FSU master’s program, you will be prepared to work in environmental consulting firms, national and international conservation organizations and for state and federal agencies. What You'll Learn

You'll participate in small classes taught by faculty who enjoy mentoring students and helping them build their professional network. You'll address local, regional, national, and international issues while you prepare for professions that require specialized training directed at maintaining biodiversity and conservation, including work with environmental consulting firms, national and international conservation organizations, and state and federal agencies. You'll work in consultation with your faculty advisor as you develop your graduate research project and thesis.
